Wrestling takes part in Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. -- Colton Rex, Josh Paisley, Elijah Flasher, and Max Rhoden were among the wrestlers for the Elizabethtown College wrestling team to win matches this weekend at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational.

Rex lost by major decision in his first bout at 133, but came back on the other side of the bracket to take a 9-4 decision over Defiance College's Seth Beard and advance. Alec Hoover of Case Western Reserve ended the junior's tournament in the following match with a 7-1 decision.

Paisley was the only Blue Jay wrestler in action this weekend to win his first match. In a narrow 5-3 decision at 149, Paisley moved on to face Zachary Cooper of Alma College. Cooper got Paisley by pinfall at 1:20. The junior got by Manchester University's Toby Warrington by 9-2 decision before his weekend ended by tech fall against Jarrad Lasko (John Carroll University).

Elijah Flasher fell by decision 6-2 in the opening match at 197. After a pair of byes, Flasher earned a 10-3 decision followed by a win by injury default. He was pinned at 6:55 in his next matchup by Gavin Dersh-Fisher of CWR.

Rhoden suffered a pinfall loss at 285, but won by decision 5-2 over Karim Fuentes. A second pinfall loss concluded Rhoden's tournament.

The Blue Jays finished Saturday 37th out of the 38-team field.

Elizabethtown will take on King's (Pa.) in a dual match on Friday, February 1, at 7 p.m. on the road.
