SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Josh McLaughlin and Colton Rex got the Elizabethtown College wrestling team out to a lead through the first two weight classes at Shippensburg, but the Raiders took the next six and wound up with a 28-13 dual victory over the Blue Jays.

McLaughlin began the second period down and on the defensive as the whistle sounded. McLaughlin was able to pull the reversal and get Corbin Hopkins for the pin fall victory 22 seconds into the second frame. Elizabethtown led 6-0 right off the bat.

Rex, on the other hand, was on the offensive at the start of his bout at 133 with Jake Downing. Rex recorded a takedown 14 seconds into the first and scored a two-point near fall followed by a four-point near fall and ended the period with 2:46 of riding time. While the remaining two periods went scoreless, Rex added a point for his riding time and got the major decision to put the Blue Jays ahead 10-0.

Shippensburg took the next six matches, four by decision, one major decision, and one pin fall. The Raiders led 22-10 going into the 197-pound matchup between Elijah Flasher and Alexi Castro.

After a scoreless opening period, Castro deferred his choice to begin the second and Flasher chose to start down. He escaped Castro's hold 12 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead. Castro was able to take a 2-1 lead with a takedown late in the second, but Flasher escaped for a second time in the period and it went 2-2 into the third. Castro started down and escaped, but soon after Flasher retook the lead after a takedown of his own. Castro added an escape with time running low, but Flasher built up enough riding time that despite ending 4-4, Flasher got the extra point and earned the decision, 5-4.

The Blue Jays will host Gettysburg on Friday, January 18, at 7 p.m.
