NEWVILLE, Pa. -- It was a dash to the finish in Saturday's Dickinson Short Course Invitational 4,000-meter race between
Samuel Gerstenbacher and Bryce Descavish of Dickinson. Gerstenbacher edged out the Dickinson junior to win the race and help the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team to a second-place finish.
Gerstenbacher, the winner of last week's Blue Jay Alumni Challenge, had plenty more competition in his race Saturday morning. Six runners ran below 12:30 in the 4k race, including senior
Tyler Alansky.
The finish between one and two came down to the thousandths, as Gerstenbacher ran 12:10.530 and Descavish came in at 12:10.532. Alansky was sixth, his second straight top-10 performance.
Christopher Myers, who did not run last week, was in action for the first time in 2018 and was the third runner to finish for the Blue Jays. He was 12th overall and 11th scoring wise to bring E-town's score to 18 points, good for second behind Dickinson's 14.
Adam Wolfe was 17th,
Colm Smith took 19th, and
Christian Schaaf was 20th.
Elizabethtown will compete at the DeSales University Invitational on Saturday, October 6.
