HERSHEY, Pa. -- Freshman
Evan Kreiser shot a 7-over par 78 on Tuesday as the Blue Jay men's golf team finished 14th in its own Elizabethtown Invitational at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
Kreiser tied for 27th-place out of 90 players with E-town's first sub-80 round of the season. The rookie from Telford, Pennsylvania slashed 15 strokes off his debut round of 93 at last week's Dickinson Fall Invitational.
Kreiser registered five pars on the front nine, but was even better on the back. The highlight of his round was an eagle on the par-4, 286-yard No. 15. Kreiser played the back nine in 2-over 37, collecting four pars to go with his eagle and never shooting worse than bogey.
Elizabethtown's three remaining scorers were tightly bunched together.
Garrett Leib shot 87 (+16),
Brady McLamb 88 (+17) and
Michael Zabrecky 89 (+18).
Leib birdied No. 15, which played at a significantly shorter yardage than usual, and added five pars. McLamb totaled eight pars and Zabrecky seven --including four in a row between holes 11-14.
Tyler Goldberg got up and down on the 6,412-yard par 71 course in 93. He was the only Blue Jay to birdie a hole other than 15, posting a three on the par-4, 390-yard No. 12.
E-town missed a spot in the top 10 by just nine strokes on Tuesday after shooting 342 (+58) as a team.
A wet morning gave way to warm and sunny conditions by the time players teed off just after 1 p.m. Gettysburg's Dane Sethre-Hofstad found the conditions suitable to his liking as he won individual medalist honors with a 3-under par 68.
Andrew Cornish of Penn State Berks and Daniel Murphy of Cabrini tied for second with 2-under 69s.
Sethre-Hofstad's teammate Danny Harcourt also went under par with a 1-under 70 to take fourth. The Bullets edged Centennial Conference rival McDaniel for the team title, 292-294. Gettysburg was just eight strokes over par for the event.
Following the runner-up Green Terror were Cabrini in third (301, +17), Eastern in fourth (305, +21) and Stevenson in fifth (307, +23).
Elizabethtown will now get two weeks to prepare for the Gettysburg Fall Invitational at Hanover Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
