Men's golf jumps to fifth at Landmark Championship

MOOSIC, Pa. -- Caleb Clements and Craig Eidle shot team-best rounds of 83 and Elizabethtown turned in the third lowest score during Sunday's final round of the inaugural Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championship at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

The Blue Jays moved up a spot to fifth with their strong finish and were just two strokes behind Susquehanna for fourth.

Both Clements and Eidle played their best rounds of the season on Sunday in less than ideal conditions. Glenmaura's par 71, 6,308-yard layout was already drenched from overnight rains and steady precipitation continued throughout the final round.

Clements managed a pair of birdies during first round play, but was much more consistent on Sunday, logging nine pars. Clements improved his front nine by six shots and placed 14th on the weekend with an 87-83=170 (+28).

Eidle was just 3-over par on the back nine, Sunday, fueling his 15th-place finish. The Boyertown, Pennsylvania native secured his only birdie of the second round on No. 17, a 337-yard par 4. Six of the senior's eight pars came on the back nine as well. Eidle completed the weekend with an 88-83=171 (+29).

Junior Santiago Garcia, playing his first tournament of the spring and just his second of the year, joined Eidle and Scranton's Erik Ridley in a three-way tie for 15th.

Garcia tore through the front nine in 1-over par 36 after birdieing the par-3 second and par-4 fourth, but struggled to limit his damage on holes 10-18 en route to an 85.

Felix Goettfert, the Jays' second best scorer last season, could never quite recapture his form in 2017-18, but did close his season with an 87. Goettfert slashed seven shots off his opening round to tie for 25th (94-87=181).

Michael Zabrecky also competed for E-town this weekend going 95-99=194.

Elizabethtown's 338 team score on Sunday was 14 shots off Scranton's final round-best pace of 324. Inaugural champion Goucher was next at a 334.

Overall, the Gophers shot 315-334=649 to hold off host Scranton by three shots (328-324=652). Moravian placed third at 663 and Susquehanna was fourth at 691. The Blue Jays were two strokes back of the River Hawks in fifth at 355-338=693 (+125).
