Men's golf takes 15th in home tournament

HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's golf team finally made its spring debut on Thursday, hosting the Blue Jay Classic at Hershey Country Club's East Course.

The Blue Jays battled through unseasonably cold temperatures and gusty winds to place 15th of 20 teams.

Junior Felix Goettfert had a birdie and two pars on the front nine and completed his round with a team-best 92 (+21). Craig Eidle shot 93, Zach Dennin 94 and Michael Zabrecky 97 to make up the Jays' scoring contingent.

Eidle and Zabrecky each posted three pars, while Dennin had two. Freshman Caleb Clements, who carded a 99, actually led all E-town players with four pars.

Three additional Blue Jays competed as individuals. Adam Strayton and Tyler Goldberg each recorded four pars on their way to rounds of 94 and 96, respectively.

Prior to Thursday's tournament, the Blue Jays' first two spring outings were postponed by snow.

Dickinson took home the team title by four strokes over DeSales. The Red Devils conquered the par 71, 6,384-yard course in 322 (+38). Following the runner-up Bulldogs were Penn State Berks (328) and Alvernia (329). Cabrini and Stevenson tied for fifth at 331.

Alvernia's Keith Noonan topped the field of 103 golfers with a 4-over par 75 for individual medalist honors, two strokes clear of a three-way tie for second.

The Blue Jays are next scheduled to play in the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen Spring Invitational on Monday, April 9 at Lebanon Country Club.
