Softball gets senior day win in rain-shortened doubleheader with Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team celebrated the career of grad student Kirstin Blass prior to first pitch of Saturday's Landmark Conference doubleheader with Juniata. Blass had a two-run single in the game as the Blue Jays came out with a 6-2 win over the Eagles. Game two got into the third inning, but was canceled to severe weather.

Amber Sergas had Juniata (6-24-1, 1-10 Landmark) on lockdown through five innings. She scattered five hits over seven innings for her 11th complete game of the season. She got out of a jam in the first after the Eagles had two runners in scoring position. A pop out to Blass at short ended the threat.

Sarah Personette launched her fourth home run of the year over the left field fence in the fourth inning to break a 0-0 tie. Emma Varrato had led off the inning with a single and Kaitlyn Witmer reached on an error. Personette came in with no outs and sent her shot over the left fielder's reach for the three-run homer. E-town led 3-0 after four.

Juniata made it a 3-2 game in the sixth with a pair of runs. Chrisi Lerchen's RBI single cut the lead down to one. Sergas got Delaney Nevius to ground out to end the inning.

Brinley Schmidt scored on Wendy Header's double down the left field line. With Christina Dark at third and Header at second, Blass laced a base hit up the middle to bring in both runs. Header's double made it 4-2 before Blass increased it to 6-2. The Eagles did not get another run as Sergas retired the side in order to end the game. Elizabethtown improved to 18-13 and 3-8 in the Landmark.

The Blue Jays and Eagles got into the third inning of game two, but a quick-moving storm system hit forcing a temporary suspension of the game. It was later decided the game would not be resumed.

Blass and Varrato each had two hits for E-town. Jess Kutteroff, Personette, Schmidt, Dark, and Header all had a hit each.
