WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Elizabethtown fell in its final Landmark Conference match of the season on Sunday, as homestanding Catholic collected an 8-1 win in the battle of the birds.

The Cardinals used a doubles sweep to put the Blue Jays behind the eight ball, digging a hole too deep for Elizabethtown (2-12, 1-6 Landmark) to climb out of.

Sophomore Alec Schneider, playing at sixth singles, salvaged a point for the Blue and Gray with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 victory over Matt Pham.

E-town's first doubles team of Ryan Caris and Tyler Spinello nearly broke up the Cardinals' (5-11, 2-5) stronghold, but opponents Jan Lasota and Rob Alexander held on for an 8-6 win.

Catholic won the two remaining doubles matches by 8-2 scores and captured all five of its singles victories in straight sets.

Elizabethtown will finish the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Messiah at 3:30 p.m.
