Erika Cole vs. Juniata 12/1/18

Women's swimming wins eight events, tops Juniata in home opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Erika Cole, Sara Lingo and Robin Hill were all multi-event winners on Saturday as Elizabethtown competed at the Alumni Pool for the first time this season. The Blue Jays won eight of 14 events on the day to best Landmark foe Juniata, 156-90.

Lingo picked up a trio of individual victories, taking the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM. Hill triumphed in the 100 free and 500 free, while Cole captured the 50 free. Hill and Cole were also part of the winning 200 free relay team that included sophomore Julia Argentati and senior Cheryl Errichetti.

After Juniata won the meet-opening 200 medley relay, Lingo easily won the 1000 free in 11:25.37, almost 24 seconds ahead of the Eagles' Kendra White. Junior Sadie Hawkins followed with a win in the 200 free (2:10.97), leading teammate Marin Adams (2:11.53) in a 1-2 finish.

Cole almost broke into the 25-second range for the first time since last season's Landmark Championships in the 50 free, coming up just two-hundredths of a second shy in a season and team-best 26.02. Errichetti placed second in 26.99. Still, the result got the Blue Jays (3-4, 2-1 Landmark) on another role as they went on to win three straight events.

Hill posted a season-best 58.34 to claim the 100 free ahead of fellow Jays Errichetti (1:00.53) and Hawkins (1:00.85). Lingo earned her second victory of the afternoon with a 2:18.51 in the 200 back and Hill returned to the pool with a season and team-best 5:39.38 to win the 500 free by more than six seconds.

Lingo, the defending Landmark 400 IM champion, had no problems winning the 200 version on Saturday with a 2:23.96. Elizabethtown closed out the meet with Cole, Hill, Argentati and Errichetti winning the 200 free relay by more than 5.5 seconds (1:47.42).

Alex Fontes swept the 100 and 200 fly for Juniata (1-4, 0-3). Fontes also contributed to the Eagles' winning 200 medley relay team (2:02.63). Tabitha Dettelback and Cassie Sanidad, who also were part of the winning relay, each won an individual event. Dettelback claimed the 100 back and Sanidad the 200 breast.

Saturday's meet was Elizabethtown's last of the 2018 calendar year. The Blue Jays will return from their winter training trip to Florida with a meet at Scranton on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
