ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Nine different swimmers won individual events or were part of a winning relay team as Elizabethtown took care of Juniata, 189-59, in its home opener Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Pool.
Alex Pecher claimed victories in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Senior
Nick Petrella won the 200 backstroke and contributed to the Blue Jays' winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays teams.
Guillaume Gouronc,
Tommy Kuhn and
Casey Marshall were also multi-event winners for the hosts.
Three days after setting a season-best time in the 50 free (23.51), Pecher did it again. The sophomore established a new team-best time by .02 seconds with a 22.51. Petrella was second in 23.60.
Pecher went back-to-back with a victory in the 100 free (49.97), leading
Austin Dolaway (51.81) and
Connor Casey (55.25) in a sweep of the top three spots.
Dolaway topped teammate
Sam Hirshberg in the 200 free with a 1:53.20. Hirshberg posted a 1:55.70 and freshman
Alex Patterson was third in 2:01.15.
Elizabethtown's (5-1, 3-0 Landmark) depth was too much for the Eagles to counter.
Ben Spangler won the 100 breast in 1:07.79 ahead of
Tristan Koehler (1:08.43) and
James McTighe (1:09.71) in another 1-2-3 for the Blue and Gray.
The Blue Jays also took the top three spots, uncontested, in the 200 fly as Marshall won in 2:05.53 with
Brock Culver second and Kuhn third.
Petrella dominated the 200 back in 2:05.37, while Gouronc won the 200 breast in a season and team-best time of 2:19.15.
Pecher, Culver and Gouronc took the top three spots in the 100 fly. Pecher's winning time was 55.18.
Elizabethtown was victorious in both relays as well. The 200 medley team of Petrella, Gouronc, Kuhn and
Brian Sylvestri clocked a 1:43.25. In the 200 free relay, Kuhn, Marshall, Koehler and Petrella had the winning time of 1:34.41.
Hunter Mona was the Eagles (1-3, 0-3) standout performer on Saturday. Mona won the 1000 free, 500 free and 200 IM.
The Blue Jays will resume their dual schedule following winter break with a Sunday, Jan. 13 meet at Scranton.
