MADISON, N.J. --
Casey Marshall and
Alex Pecher won individual events, while Elizabethtown swept the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays during a double dual at Drew University on Saturday.
The Blue Jays defeated the host Rangers 138-123, but were edged by Arcadia, 138-124.
Elizabethtown led from start-to-finish in the 400 medley relay to open the meet with a victory. The Jays' time of 3:37.08 was more than 2.5 seconds faster than last year's top time of 3:39.78 in the event, which was set at the Landmark Championships.
Pecher broke into the 53-second range in a dominant 100 backstroke win. The sophomore from Hanover, Pennsylvania was the only swimmer out of 10 competitors to turn in a sub 26-second 50-yard split (25.86). In fact, the next closest 50 split came from Drew's Matheus Macena at 27.16.
Pecher also swam the fastest final 50, easily capturing victory in 53.89 ahead of Macena (56.00) and Arcadia's Tristan Highet (56.51).
Marshall, Elizabethtown's record holder in the 100 and 200 butterfly, led teammate
Tommy Kuhn in a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard race on Saturday. Marshall trailed Drew's Macena by .25 at the halfway point, but closed with a 27.68 to secure a 52.48 and hold off Kuhn for the win.
Kuhn also came on strong down the stretch by going 28.90 in his final 50 to clock in at 54.26.
In a dead heat to wrap up the meet, Elizabethtown out-touched Drew at the wall to score a comeback win by one one-hundredths of a second. The Blue Jays registered a time of 1:29.77, while the Rangers were at 1:29.78.
Elizabethtown got runner-up finishes from
Guillaume Gouronc in the 100 (1:03.28) and 200 (2:19.30) breaststroke, Marshall in the 200 fly (2:02.07), Pecher in the 100 free (49.14) and
Nick Petrella in the 200 back (2:01.06).
