Caleb Clements at Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic 4/5/18

Clements, Zabrecky tops for Blue Jays on opening day of Landmark Invitational

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Caleb Clements and Michael Zabrecky each shot in the 70s during the opening round of the Landmark Conference Fall Invitational at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course on Saturday.

Clements' 77 and Zabrecky's 78 were career-low rounds for both Blue Jays. Elizabethtown is currently seventh of eight teams with a score of 328 (+40), but fully in contention to make a jump up the leaderboard with 18 more holes to play Sunday.

The Blue Jays top duo went about their rounds in much different ways. Clements, from Lancaster, recorded a team-high three birdies and was on pace to shoot under par after a 1-under front nine (35). He was 6-over on the back nine to tie for ninth of 40 players.

Zabrecky was steady throughout his round with a team-leading 12 pars. He shot 39 going out and coming in.

Freshman Evan Kreiser birdied No. 1, a 401-yard par 4, and No. 2 a 288-yard par 4. If not for some tough luck on the par 5 No. 5, he was on pace for an even front nine. Kreiser wound up with nine pars in addition to his two birdies to finish with an 82.

Tyler Goldberg had a birdie and six pars on his way to shooting 91 and Nate Baxter played his round in 94 to complete Elizabethtown's lineup.

Drew heads into play Sunday with a five stroke lead over Goucher, but the top five teams are separated by just eight strokes, and the top six by 13.

Goucher's Julian Gonzalez and Drew's Luis Ng Tang both carded even par 72s to sit atop the individual leaderboard.

Final round play begins Sunday morning at 10:15.
