Men's swimming wins four events against Scranton

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- David Foery, Casey Marshall and Alec Schneider earned individual victories and were part of Elizabethtown's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team in Saturday's 160-91 defeat against Landmark foe Scranton.

The Blue Jays competed for the first time in 2018 as the countdown to conference championships begins --now just a month away.

Schneider, a sophomore, was the first to taste victory against the reigning Landmark runners-up. He was the only swimmer to break 23 seconds in the 50 freestyle, clocking a 22.64 for a relatively sizable 0.88 margin of victory.

Elizabethtown (5-3, 2-3 Landmark) made it two freestyle wins in as many events when Foery followed with a season-best 52.03 to capture the 100 by six-tenths of a second over the Royals' (4-3, 2-1) Bobby McLoughlin.

The only non-freestyle win from the Jays came courtesy of Marshall, who edged Scranton's Tim Quigley in a thrilling 100 butterfly. E-town's sophomore, who won bronze at the 2017 Landmark Championships, held off Quigley's hard charge for an eight-hundredths of a second triumph, 54.82 to a .90.

All three individual winners for the Blue and Gray were joined by Nick Petrella in closing the meet with a season-best 1:32.67 to win the 200 free relay.

The Blue Jays got second-place finishes from its 200 medley relay of Alex Pecher, Ben Sapngler, Marshall and Schneider, Austin Dolaway in the 200 free (season-best 1:54.54), Pecher in the 100 backstroke (57.23) and Guillaume Gouronc in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.76).

Elizabethtown heads to Albright next Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
