Drew blitzes men's soccer

MADISON, N.J. -- Landmark Conference play got off to a less than ideal start for two-time defending league runner-up Elizabethtown. Drew scored twice in the first half and added four more second-half goals to snap the Blue Jays' 16-game conference unbeaten streak, 6-0, Saturday afternoon.

Cole Bosch had a goal and an assist, and the Rangers featured five different goal scorers in handing the Blue Jays their largest margin of defeat since a five-goal loss to Wheaton (Ill.) in 1997.

Drew opened the scoring in the 19th minute with an own goal that was headed in by the Blue Jays off a Ranger (8-0-1, 1-0 Landmark) corner kick. Max Correa converted a penalty kick less than four minutes before halftime to double the Rangers' lead.

Matt Asante (51'), Bosch (55'), Andy Imoh (68') and Aidan Cserhat (78') scored second-half goals for the hosts.

Drew outshot the Jays 24-10 with 12 shots in each half.

Brian Gately made four saves for E-town (5-3, 0-1) and freshman Josh Jarrett added another.

The Blue Jays were 13-0-3 in their previous 16 league games going back to the 2014 finale, but Drew brought that streak to an abrupt halt.

Elizabethtown now has three days to get ready for Wednesday's showdown with rival and 10th-ranked Messiah on Herr Field. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
