Gerstenbacher paces men's XC at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Samuel Gerstenbacher was the top runner for the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team Friday night at the Galen E. Piper Alumni Open/XC Challenge. The annual meet, hosted by Shippensburg University, was won by Dickinson with a meet-best 33 points. E-town placed fourth with 107 points.

Gerstenbacher, the 2016 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, was one of four Blue Jays to finish inside the top 30. 108 runners were entered in the meet.

The sophomore was 16th overall in a 6,000-meter time of 20:04, a 6k personal best of 14 seconds. He ran 20:18 at the Shippensburg meet last year.

Not far off his pace was junior Tyler Alansky, who placed 21st in 20:14. Tommy Fitzgerald was right behind him at 20:18 (22nd).

Christopher Myers was Blue Jay No. 4 across the finish line. The Lancaster, Pa. native was 26th in 20:28. Ryan Rippeon rounded out of the scoring for the Jays. He was 31st in 20:38.

Along with Gerstenbacher, Alansky, Fitzgerald, Myers, and Rippeon all set their 6k PRs Friday night.

The men's cross country team will host the Blue Jay Alumni Challenge on its new course next Saturday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m.
