Golf hosts Blue Jay Classic at Hershey Country Club

HERSHEY, Pa. -- Elizabethtown hosted its home spring tournament, the Blue Jay Classic, Monday afternoon on the East Course at Hershey Country Club. Senior Kyle Hakun was E-town's top finisher, shooting an 84.

Hakun birdied the 500-yard, par 5 No. 1 and put forth seven pars on the 3,426-yard, par 71 course which featured particularly firm greens that made low scores the exception, not the norm.

Chuck Johnston also picked up a birdie, his coming on the par-3, 193-yard No. 2, and six pars on his way to a round of 89.

Garrett Leib (91), Jeff Light (94) and Adam Strayton (97) made up the remainder of coach Jim Reed's lineup, while sophomore Tyler Goldberg shot a 98 while playing as an individual.

The Blue and Gray finished with a team score of 358 (+74).

Stevenson, backed by tying second-place finishers Johnny Messina and Matthew Shur, who each carded 3-over rounds of 74, took the team title by four strokes over Cabrini.

Cabrini's Joseph Myers sat atop the leaderboard at day's end with a 2-over 73 to earn medalist honors.

Messiah (315), Lebanon Valley (316) and Dickinson (318) made up the rest of the top five in the team standings.

Monday's tournament, delayed from April 6 due to heavy rains, featured just nine teams after many couldn't make it back to Hershey for the new date.

The Blue Jays will next take part in the Stevenson Spring Invitational at Piney Branch Golf Club in Upperco, Maryland, on Thursday afternoon.
