Hakun fifth as Blue Jays open spring season at Gettysburg

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Kyle Hakun started the spring right where he left off in the fall, leading Elizabethtown with a 6-over par 77 and fifth place finish at Thursday's Gettysburg Spring Invitational.

Hakun has consistently been the team's best performing player and is averaging an 18-hole score of 78.50. Taking on the course at the Hanover Country Club for the second time this season, Hakun improved by six shots to post his fourth straight round in the 70's.

The Springfield, Pennsylvania native wrapped up the fall season with a win at the LVC Dutchmen Invitational and Thursday's result marked his second top five of the season.

Freshman Garrett Leib shot his second best round of the season with a 14-over 85. Leib's top performance of the year also came on the same course back in September at Gettysburg's Fall Invitational, when he carded an 82.

Elizabethtown also got a 93 from Chuck Johnston and a 94 from senior Jeff Light, who joined the team this spring after completing his four-year career with the Blue Jay men's soccer team.

The Jays finished with a team score of 349, 65-over par, to finish eighth of 10 competing teams. The host Bullets won with a 313 (+29), three strokes better than Lebanon Valley and four ahead of Dickinson, who had the individual medalist in Charlie Zane (73, +2).

E-town returns to the Lebanon Country Club to take part in the LVC Dutchmen Spring Invitational this coming Monday. Teams are scheduled to tee off at noon.
