Blue Jays blow past Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Elizabethtown women's swimming won 11 of 14 events en route to a 172-63 Landmark Conference dual victory at Juniata Saturday afternoon.

Erika Cole claimed both sprint freestyle races and contributed to each of the Blue Jays' (4-4, 2-2 Landmark) two relay victories as part of a four-win day.

Maddie Lasko and Sara Lingo won three times apiece and freshman Julia Argentati swept the 100- and 200-meter backstroke.

E-town took a very close 200 medley relay to start the meet, with Cole, Lasko, Sadie Hawkins and Cheryl Errichetti swimming a 2:22.70. Errichetti anchored the relay and just out-touched Juniata's Krista Peachey, as the Blue Jays prevailed by .12 seconds.

Rookie Cate Falkenstein won the 800 freestyle (11:19.76), Megan Anderson led a Blue Jay 1-2-3 in the 200 free (2:30.88), Argentati captured the 100 back (1:19.91) and Lasko triumphed in the 100 breast (1:28.87) as the visitors won the first five events.

Cole was unchallenged in the 50 free, winning by more than one second (30.16) and got right back in the pool to take the 100 free in 1:06.72, coming from behind in the final 50 meters to top teammate Errichetti.

Argentati cruised in the 200 back (2:50.69) , while Lingo did the same in her 400 free (5:02.43) and 200 IM (2:43.66) victories, winning both by more than 15 seconds.

Cole, Lasko, Lingo and Errichetti closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (2:05.29), as the Jays posted the top three times in the event.

Alexandra Fontes was responsible for all three of Juniata's wins. She went uncontested in the 200 fly and also won the 200 breast and 100 fly.

Saturday's meet was Elizabethtown's last of the fall semester. Following a winter training trip, the Jays will return to Alumni Pool for a conference meet with Scranton on Jan. 13, 2018, at 1 p.m.
