Trio of triple winners lead men's swimming over Cabrini

BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- Casey Marshall, Alex Pecher and Alec Schneider each pulled off a hat trick of victories Wednesday evening as the Elizabethtown College men's swim team defeated Cabrini 126-77 in a dual meet at Bryn Mawr College.

All three swimmers were part of the Blue Jays' (4-2) 200-yard medley relay team, along with Ben Spangler, that opened the meet with a victory in 1:45.32.

Marshall and Schneider teamed with Tommy Kuhn and Brian Sylvestri to cap the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Elizabethtown's winning time of 1:34.35 was its best performance of the night, as it marked the team's second-fastest time in the event this year.

In between the Blue and Gray won five other events. Marshall captured the 100 butterfly (55.03) and Schneider once again reigned over the 50 free (23.13).

Pecher, a freshman from Hanover, was the only E-town swimmer to win two individual events. The first-year Blue Jay recorded a victory in the 200 IM, edging Cabrini's (3-5) Nicholas Conroy by .37 seconds with a time of 2:03.32. Pecher also won the 100 backstroke ahead of teammates Nick Petrella and Sylvestri as E-town swept the top three spots.

While Schneider won the 50 free for the fifth time in six meets, Sylvestri recorded a career-best 23.69 to finish third, which was also E-town's fourth-fastest time of the season.

Junior Guillaume Gouronce accounted for E-town's remaining victory by posting a 1:05.96 in the 100 breaststroke. Fellow Blue Jays Spangler and James McTighe finished second and third.

The Blue Jays dual win was its second straight. They'll swim an exhibition at Juniata on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Eagles are transitioning from club to varsity status, joining their already established women's program. Juniata's men's program will achieve varsity status in 2018-19 and compete as a full member of the Landmark Conference.
