Sarah Helt vs. Lebanon Valley 11/20/17

Women's Swimming

Five different winners help Jays hold off Dutchmen

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown women's swimming used six race wins by five different swimmers to win its third dual of the season, 117-88, over Lebanon Valley Monday evening at the Alumni Pool.

Sara Lingo was the only repeat winner for the Blue Jays (3-2). The sophomore swept the distance freestyle events in dominating fashion, winning the both the 1000-yard event (11:54.23) and the 500-yard edition (5:37.67) by more than 21 seconds.

Lebanon Valley came out of the gate strong, nipping the Blue and Gray by less than two-tenths of a second in the 200 medley relay. Despite the loss, the time of 2:03.15 from E-town's top relay team of Lingo, Dru Schneider, Sadie Hawkins and Erika Cole was a new season standard.

Lingo and freshman Cate Falkenstein helped the Jays even the score after the 1000 free. Lingo won and Falkenstein finished third in a personal best 12:35.78, over 17 seconds faster than her previous fast time.

Elizabethtown would open a sizable lead from there, winning the next three events with a pair of 1-2-3 finishes.

In the 200 free, Sadie Hawkins won a tight race with teammates Maddie Ripley and Julia Argentati that saw all three Blue Jays finish within half a second of each other. Hawkins' winning time was a 2:16.51. Rippley took second in 2:!6.66 and Argentati touched in at 2:16.96.

Cole lowered her 50 free time for the fourth consecutive dual, winning Monday's race in 26.56. Junior Maddie Lasko was third.

E-town owned the 200 IM with Sarah Helt winning in a season-best 2:35.23, followed by Abigail Mehring in a season-best 2:35.47 and Dru Schneider third in 2:36.58.

Cheryl Errichetti cut almost seven-tenths off her former 100 free season best to lead another 1-2-3 sweep for the Jays. Errichetti went 1:01.02, while Lasko and Megan Anderson tied for second at 1:01.35, a season-best for both swimmers.

Lingo went back to work in the 500 free, improving her time by 1.63 seconds to move into the Landmark Conference's top 10 at 5:37.67.

Lebanon Valley (2-3) attempted to make things interesting late by piling up victories in three of the last four events, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit. Erika Schell (100 fly) was one of three individual winners for the visitors along with Kaitlyn Welch (100 back) and Courtney Betsock (100 breast), but Schell also contributed to both of LVC's relay wins in the 200 medley and 200 free.

Next up for the Blue Jays is a double dual with host Bryn Mawr and Cabrini on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m.
