Gerstenbacher, Alansky run to all-region honors at Mideast Regional

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Coming off its fourth straight Landmark Conference championship, the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team looked to earn a spot back at the NCAA Championships at Saturday's NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Meet held at Big Spring High School. The Blue Jays finished eighth with two all-region runners, Samuel Gerstenbacher and Tyler Alansky.

The Jays, ranked tenth in the Mideast in the most recent Division III poll from the USTFCCCA, took ninth a season ago at the Mideast Regional held at DeSales with Gerstenbacher the top finisher in 42nd.

Gerstenbacher, the Landmark champion and Performer of the Year, became the latest Elizabethtown men's runner to earn All-Mideast Region. He was 29th in 25:53.5, which is a new 8,000-meter personal best. Alansky was hot on his trail, taking 31st to also earn All-Mideast Region status. Alansky ran 25:54.3, also an 8k PR. It is the first regional honor for both athletes.

Ryan Rippeon was the third scoring member of the Blue Jays' team on Saturday. The sophomore crossed the finish in 26:29.2, the third PR of the race for E-town. He was 53rd.

Tommy Fitzgerald placed in the top 100, finishing 92nd in 27:07.8, a season-best time at 8,000-meters. Pat Blair was the final scoring member for the Jays. He was 132nd in 27:38.8.
