LedgeRock unkind to Blue Jay golfers

MOHNTON, Pa. -- On an unseasonably warm October afternoon, Tuesday, LedgeRock Golf Club got the better of the Elizabethtown College men's golf team during the Alvernia Fall Invitational.

Senior Adam Strayton scored 93, but was the only Blue Jay to break 100 for a lineup missing its top six in scoring average. The end result was a ninth-place team finish in the nine-team field and the team's highest scoring one-round tournament (402, +114) in more than 20 years.

Tyler Goldberg shot 102, Brian Priebe 103 and Zach Dennin 104 to complete the Blue Jays' counting scores. Rick Stone posted a 108.

Penn State Berks and Lebanon Valley tied for the team title, with the Nittany Lions claiming top honors on the tournament's second tiebreaker of low No. 2 player scores. The two teams' non-scoring cards were matching 87s.

LVC did get the upper hand on medalist honors as David Herbst won the tiebreaker over Berks' Andrew Cornish after both players shot 1-over par 73. Herbst, who won the Elizabethtown Invitational earlier this fall, won on a match of cards with a lower front 9 score (37-38).

Elizabethtown wraps up the fall season with a tri-match against DeSales and Delaware Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Brookside Country Club in Macungie.
