Blue Jays take part in Gettysburg Fall Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Entered as an individual, freshman Garrett Leib shot a team best 82 Saturday as Elizabethtown finished 10th in the Gettysburg Fall Invitational at Hanover Country Club.

Though Leib's score didn't factor into the Blue Jays' 344 (+60), the Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, native played his top round of the fall in just his second collegiate round overall.

Leib improved by six strokes from his debut at the Messiah Falcon Fall Classic Sept. 13, going 11-over par on the 6,505-yard, par 71 course. He finished Saturday's tournament in a five-way tie for 30th.

Of the Jays' scoring golfers, senior Kyle Hakun was tops with a 12-over par 83. Junior Craig Eidle signed for an 85 (+14), Chuck Johnston an 87 (+16) and Josh Diker an 89 (+18). Tyler Goldberg (97) was also on course for Elizabethtown.

Gettysburg and Lebanon Valley tied for the team title with 22-over par scores of 306. Lebanon Valley was awarded the win on a comparison of fifth scoring player scorecards. The Dutchmen got an 82 from Thomas Moran, while the Bullets' No. 5 was Jeremy Haas with an 84.

McDaniel (307, +23), Stevenson (318, +34) and Penn State Altoona (320, +36) joined LVC and Gettysburg in the top five.

McDaniel's Brandon Vance was the only player to solve Hanover Country Club with an even par 71 to win the individual title.

Elizabethtown has four tournaments remaining this fall. Up next is a trip to Raven's Claw Golf Club Tuesday to compete in the Ursinus Fall Invitational.
