Susquehanna sweeps E-town on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College softball team came into Saturday's doubleheader with Susquehanna needing to sweep the Crusaders and get some help from Drew in order to get to the Landmark Conference Tournament. Susquehanna took both games from E-town to eliminate the Jays from postseason contention with 8-4 and 5-1 wins on Senior Day.

Game 1: Susquehanna 8, Elizabethtown 4
After two scoreless innings, Susquehanna (23-13, 9-3 Landmark) put up a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Crusaders tacked on three more in the fourth to make it 5-0.

Elizabethtown (12-24, 3-9 Landmark) got to Crusaders' starter Jamie Fesinstine in the sixth with four runs to make it a game. Kirstin Blass led off the inning with a walk. Nicole Heckert singled through the left side to advance Blass to second. Emma Varrato brought Blass home with a bloop single down the left field line to get E-town its first run of the game.

Kelsey Brown singled down the left field line to score Heckert and make it 7-2. Emily Nelson reached on a throwing error that allowed Brown and Varrato to score as the Jays narrowed the gap to 7-4.'

With an insurance run in the top of the seventh, Fesinstine closed out the game as Elizabethtown left two on the bases.

Game 2: Susquehanna 5, Elizabethtown 1
A pair of doubles put the Crusaders ahead early in game two. Lauren Creamer hit an RBI two-bagger to left center. Claire Hanratty knocked in two more with a two-RBI double to nearly the same spot as Creamer's.

Danielle Vollono grounded out to Varrato at second, but the play allowed Jackie Gore to score to make it 4-0 in the second.

The Blue Jays were able to generate a run in the fifth inning as Kelsey Farrington picked up an RBI on a groundout. Christina Dark scored.

Alexa Gonzalez pitched all seven innings in Susquehanna's 5-1 win.
