Eight event victories lead Blue Jays over Gallaudet

WASHINGTON -- Elizabethtown men's swimming used eight event wins to collect its second straight dual meet victory, 149-85, at Gallaudet Saturday.

Freshman Casey Marshall was at the forefront of the Blue Jays' success, winning the 100-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley.

Marshall's time of 52.76 in the 100 free led a 1-2 finish with teammate Tommy Kuhn. Kuhn registered a 54.19. E-town's (2-1) talented rookie later made his debut in the 400 IM, where he established a season-best time of 4:35.97, which was good enough to hold off Gallaudet's Chris Martinez by two-tenths of a second.

David Foery (200 free), Brian Sylvestri (100 back), Guillaume Gouronc (100 breast), Nick Petrella (200 back), Kuhn (100 fly) and the Jays' 200 medley relay team also recorded victories.

In the 200, Foery was the only swimmer to crack the two-minute mark, with a winning time of 1:59.44. Marshall took third in the event at 2:34.22.

Sylvestri followed with a new personal record of 1:01.00 to take the 100 back, cutting more than seven seconds off his previous best time set back in the season opener against York (Pa.) Oct. 22.

Elizabethtown filled the top two spots in the finishing order of the 100 breast with sophomore Gouronc (1:05.68) and senior Kieran Koehler (1:06.94) scoring a combined 13 points for the visitors in the event.

Gouronc had a strong afternoon, supplementing his win in the 100 breast with runner-up efforts in the 200 breast (season best time of 2:22.90) and 100 fly (1:01.11).

Petrella won an exciting race with Gallaudet (0-3) junior Jonathan Tikhonoff in the 200 back. The E-town sophomore posted a time of 2:10.53 to Tikhonoff's 2:11.91.

The Blue Jays dominated the 100 fly behind Kuhn's 59.15. Gouronc and Petrella added strong performances for a sweep of the top three spots.

Elizabethtown will host Catholic at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the second of four home meets this season.
