Hakun claims LVC Dutchmen Invitational

LEBANON, Pa. -- Senior Kyle Hakun became the first Elizabethtown College golfer to win a tournament in more than three seasons, posting a 3-over par 75 to capture Monday's LVC Dutchmen Invitational at Lebanon Country Club.

Hakun's second lowest score of the fall was good enough to top 36 competitors and lead the Blue Jays to a second-place team finish --their best of the season-- in the seven-team field. The Springfield, Pennsylvania, product finished one shot clear of Lebanon Valley's Thomas Moran on a blustery afternoon.

Hakun is E-town's first individual medalist since Ryan Laudeman won the Scranton-hosted Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational on April 15, 2013, a span of 41 tournaments.

A season-high eight players competed Monday for the Blue and Gray.

Sophomore Felix Goettfert collected his second top 10 finish in the team's last three tournaments, tying for 10th with an 85 (+13).

Freshman Garrett Leib carded an 89 (+17) and junior Craig Eidle 91 (+91) as Elizabethtown registered a team score of 340 (+52). The Jays finished 18 shots back of Lebanon Valley's winning 322.

Chris Heuer (92), Chuck Johnston (95), Alex Albenzi (96) and Josh Diker (101) also hit the course for E-town, which finished five shots ahead of third-place Penn College (345).

Monday's tournament marked the end of the team's fall season. Dates are in the process of being finalized for the Jays' spring tournaments.
