Women's swimming opens season against York (Pa.)

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Freshman Sara Lingo enjoyed a terrific collegiate debut as Elizabethtown women's swimming opened its 2016-17 season with a 163-83 loss to York (Pa.) Saturday at the Alumni Pool.

Lingo's times in her three individual events: 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley, were all faster than the team's top time in those respective events a season ago.

Lingo, a Milford, Delaware, native, swam a close second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:46.35. She trailed York's Andrea Sturgis by just over a second at the finish and bested E-town's 2015-16 top time by more than 40 seconds.

Later in the meet, Lingo went 2:19.59 in the 200 back, missing out on the win by less than two-tenths of a second. Lingo also posted the second fastest time in the 400 IM, going 5:05.32.

Maddie Lasko, Jennifer Lakey, Sadie Hawkins and Erika Cole teamed up for a 1:56.53 in the 200 freestyle relay to place second.

Elizabethtown (0-1) will next swim at the non-traditional Susquehanna Schweikert Relays this coming Friday at 6 p.m. The Jays' next dual meet is on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Goucher.
