Two shoot in 70s for Blue Jays at F&M Invitational

LITITZ, Pa. -- For the second consecutive tournament, sophomore Felix Goettfert and senior Kyle Hakun were the top finishers for Elizabethtown. Both golfers shot 6-over par 77 in Monday's Franklin & Marshall Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club.

Goettfert and Hakun tied for 37th in the invitational, as a number of low scores went up on the board on an unseasonably warm afternoon.

The top six players were all under par, with five more at even on the par 71, 6434-yard course.

Both Goettfert and Hakun scored in the 70s for the second time this fall. Ironically their previous best rounds both came at the Muhlenberg Fall Invitational two weeks ago, with Goettfert shooting 73 and Hakun 74.

Their rounds Monday were solid, but below them the team scuffled.

Chris Heuer registered a 91 (+20) and Tyler Goldberg a 98 (+27) to complete E-town's scoring foursome. Rick Stone shot 102 on the day and the Blue Jays found themselves 17th of 17 competing teams in the standings with a 343 total (+59).

Rutgers-Camden, led by Kevin Sarlo's 4-under par 67, Zach Arsenault's 1-under round of 70 and Pete DeStefano's even round of 71, posted a 1-under par team score of 283 to win the title. RUC defeated Swarthmore by two strokes (285, +1), with Franklin & Marshall 'Blue' third at 294 (+10).

Swarthmore's Nick DiMaio claimed individual medalist honors with a 4-under 67, winning the tiebreaker over Sarlo with a better score on the back nine.

Elizabethtown wraps up its fall schedule next Monday at the LVC Dutchmen Classic.
