Garcia shoots 81 at season-opening Moravian Invitational

Results

DANIELSVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Santiago Garcia got into a groove as Monday's season-opening Moravian Fall Invitational wound down. The Columbian played the back nine in 1-over par and finished with a team-best round of 81 at the Woodstone Country Club.

Garcia held his own on a day where only one player, individual medalist Ian Simon of Muhlenberg, shot under par. Simon carded a 2-under 70 on the 6,580-yard course, which featured massive elevation changes and proved a stiff challenge for many.

Elizabethtown's No. 1, Garcia ripped off four straight pars on holes 3-6. He had a 44 going out, but his game really started to come together after the turn.

Following a par of No. 10, Garcia notched his first of two birdies, dropping a three on the par-4, 373-yard, 11th. Garcia then rattled off par on 12 and 13, before going birdie, par on 15 and 16. In all, he finished with a 37 on the back nine, which played par 36. Garcia finished in a four way tie for 30th with a 9-over 81.

Also taking the course for the Blue and Gray Monday were sophomore Craig Eidle and freshman Tyler Goldberg.

Eidle shot a 99 (+27) and registered three pars during his round, while Goldberg collected a pair of pars in his collegiate debut.

Elizabethtown, due to class commitments, did not field the required four golfers to factor into the team scoring. The Blue Jays will resume their fall schedule this weekend when they begin play in the two-day Penn State Harrisburg Invitational Sunday at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
