Softball finishes Florida trip on high note, tops Roger Williams 11-2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Elizabethtown saved its best offensive showing for its final game in Florida, rapping out 11 runs on 13 hits in an 11-2 win over Roger Williams Saturday.

The Blue Jays (4-6) swept the day after beating New York U. 7-0 earlier in the day. They got two hits from six different players, while Becky Becher, Payton Marunich and Laura Tomasetti recorded two RBIs apiece.

A two-out error with Marunich batting kept the first inning going, and it would come back to haunt Roger Williams (0-4). Jessica White and Kaylee Werner hit back-to-back RBI singles for an early 2-0 lead.

That advantage grew to 4-0 in the second on a two-run single by Marunich after another Hawks error extended the inning. Neither team was particularly sharp in the field, with Elizabethtown committing five errors and RWU four.

Luckily for the Blue and Gray, their errors resulted in limited damage. That was hardly the case for the Hawks, who saw another pair of runs cross in the fourth on a two-out fielding miscue.

Elizabethtown piled it on with four runs in the seventh, reaching double-digit runs for the first time this season. The Blue Jays pieced together four straight hits to start the inning, with Tomasetti's two-run double to right the knockout blow.

Tomasetti also evened her record at 2-2 in the circle with a complete game four-hitter. She gave up two runs, only one of which was charged to her, walked three and struck out two.

Roger Williams starter Tori Milano was pelted for nine hits and eight runs, but with shoddy fielding behind her, Milano escaped with only one earned run.

The Blue Jays are scheduled to open Landmark Conference play next Saturday against Scranton.
