Comeback falls just short for Blue Jays against Cabrini

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Elizabethtown men's swimming came on strong late with a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, but Cabrini held off the Blue Jays, 105-98, by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay to close Wednesday evening's dual.

Guillaume Gouronc moved from 10th to seventh in the Landmark Conference with a new personal best time of 1:04.93 in the 100 breast, winning the event ahead of teammates Kieran Koehler (1:05.62) and Ben Spangler (1:06.97). The Blue Jays (2-4) stockpiled 16 points in the event, closing to within two of the Cavaliers heading into the final event.

Sadly, a dual win wasn't in the cards on this night. With a crucial 11 points up for grabs to the winner, Cabrini came through, swimming 1:33.21 ahead of E-town's 1:35.46 to hold on. A win in the event by the Blue Jays would have flipped the dual in their favor.

Despite the tough result, it was a good night of swimming for the Blue and Gray.

Gouronc also won the 200 individual medley in a season best 2:12.93. Fellow freshman Tommy Kuhn clocked in with a 23.80 in the 50 free, registered a PR of 56.59 in the 100 butterfly and swam Elizabethtown's top 500 free time of the year with a 5:38.91. Sophomore David Foery won the 100 free and set his fastest 200 free time of the year with a 1:54.18.

The 200 medley relay team of Nick Petrella, Kieran Koehler, Jake Stonecipher and Foery were victorious in a time of 1:50.86, while the 200 free relay team of Kuhn, Petrella, Sam Hirshberg and Gouronc recorded the Blue Jays' top time of the season (1:35.46).

Elizabethtown concludes its pre-winter break schedule Saturday at 1 p.m., when it travels to Scranton for a Landmark dual with the Royals.
