Gouronc, Kuhn lead men's swimming to wins over Drew/FDU-Florham

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Freshmen Guillaume Gouronc and Tommy Kuhn each picked up a pair of individual victories and swam a leg on the victorious 200-yard medley relay team as Elizabethtown got in the win column twice Saturday by defeating Drew, 132-55, and FDU-Florham, 111-78, at the Alumni Pool.

French-born Gouronc posted a 2:13.58 in winning the 200 individual medley, the Blue Jays' fastest time in the event this season. He added a second individual win in the 100 breast, holding off FDU-Florham's Stephen O'Brien by .37 with a winning time of 1:05.73.

Kuhn has been fast all fall and Saturday was no exception. The freshman from Pitman, N.J., outreached FDU-Florham's Alexiy Stolyarov at the wall for the win in the 50 freestyle by one-hundredth of a second, 23.93 to Stolyarov's 23.94. Kuhn came within five-hundredths of his season best 23.88.

Later in the meet, Kuhn took the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.82.

Both Gouronc and Kuhn played roles in Elizabethtown's (2-2) 200 medley relay victory to open the meet. Another freshman, Nick Petrella, swam the backstroke, followed by Gouronc in the breast, Kuhn in the fly and sophomore David Foery handled the free. Together they registered a 1:46.38, almost a full seven seconds ahead of second-place Drew.

Foery set a pair quick times in winning the 100 free (51.60) and finishing runner-up in the 200 free (1:55.23). The York native's 100 free time dropped by 2.29 seconds, while his 200 free improved by almost six-tenths.

Petrella won the 100 back for a second consecutive meet by clocking in with a 1:00.06. He was followed by teammate Sam Hirshberg, who swam a personal best 1:00.69.

Freshman Ben Spangler put forth E-town's fastest time in the 1000 free this year (11:35.93) and Jake Stonecipher continued to clip away time in the 500 free, again setting a new personal season best with a 5:45.33.

Elizabethtown will welcome Lebanon Valley to the Alumni Pool Monday evening at 6 p.m.
