Women's XC places fourth at Mideast Regional

NEWVILLE, Pa. — For the second consecutive year, the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team had three all-region runners. The Blue Jays finished fourth at Saturday's NCAA Division III Mideast Regional with 152 points. Casey Quinto, Lydia Dearie, and Brenna McNamee were all inside the top 30.

Quinto, the Landmark's runner-up, took charge Saturday to finish tenth overall and became the program's 31st all-region runner. Quinto ran 22:15.7, a second ahead of Johns Hopkins' Courtney Kelly. Her finish would automatically qualify her individually for NCAAs if E-town wouldn't receive an at-large berth.

Dearie was all-region for a second straight year, taking 25th in 22:55.9. McNamee was four spots behind Dearie, taking 29th in 22:58.4. It is McNamee's first all-region performance and the 32nd for the school.

Maria Anderson and Brianna Earnshaw were 40th and 48th, respectively. Anderson finished in 23:16.0 and Earnshaw ran 23:29.1.

Johns Hopkins was the Mideast Regional champion with a meet-low 33 points. Hopkins is the defending national champion. Dickinson was second with 100 points to claim the second automatic team qualifier spot. Haverford was third with 116.

Elizabethtown was fourth-ranked in the region going into Saturday's race.

The women's cross country team will await word if they will receive an at-large berth to the national championship meet next weekend in Wisconsin. It would be the Jays' third straight trip to nationals.
