Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey puts up four goals in each half to rout Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Seven different players scored goals for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team as it dropped four goals in each half to rout Wilkes 8-3 in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon. Andrea Keady had a team-high two goals for E-town, while Jacki Hikes, Emma Christman, Nicole Leaf, and Megan Eppley had a goal and an assist each.

Wilkes (7-5) was after that game's first goal very early, testing Margo Donlin a little over a minute into the contest, but the freshman goalie made two saves to keep the Colonels at zero.

Elizabethtown's (6-4) went two-for-two with its first two shots resulting in goals. Keady deflected Christman's offering at goal into the cage for her second of the season and first of two in the game.

Keighlyn Oliver tied the game two and a half minutes later, but E-town's following shot from Kelsey Detweiler resulted in the second goal of the afternoon. Detweiler jumped on a rebound for her fifth of the year as EC went ahead 2-1.

The Blue Jays ramped up the offense over the remainder of the half as Keady, Christman, Hannah Heritage, and Nicole Leaf had chances saved by Wilkes' goalie Dallas Kendra.

Keady and Allison McLamb doubled E-town's goal total with a pair of goals in a two-minute span. Leaf assisted on McLamb's goal. The Jays led 4-1 at the half.

It was much of the same from Elizabethtown in the second half. Hikes and Eppley recorded goals a little over a minute apart in the opening moments of the final 35 minutes to keep the scoring onslaught going.

Despite the Colonels getting two back and cutting the Jays' advantage in half, 6-3, Leaf and Christman got the goals back as Elizabethtown finished with its highest scoring output of the season for its fifth straight win over Wilkes.

Hannah Mack came on for the final nine minutes to relieve Donlin. Mack did not need to make a save, while Donlin finished with two.

The field hockey team will remain on the road, traveling to face Susquehanna on Saturday, October 10 at 1 p.m.
