Women's Cross Country

Blue Jays dominate for ninth straight crown!

KING'S POINT, N.Y. — The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team continued its unprecedented run of conference championships by winning its second straight Landmark Conference title Saturday at Sunken Meadow State Park. The Blue Jays championship, the ninth straight by the women's team, is the longest streak by any Elizabethtown cross country team since becoming a varsity sport. E-town also had the individual champion on its side for the second year running with Lydia Dearie placing first. The Jays took the top three spots in the race and were one-point of last year's conference record (18) with a meet-low 19 points.

Having not even completed her second full year of cross country, Dearie has been a top-flight star for Elizabethtown since joining the team a year ago. The senior was the fastest runner of the field Saturday, crossing in 23:09.54. Right behind her was Casey Quinto in 23:09.89 for her highest finish in a conference meet.

Brenna McNamee has been fantastic for E-town all season long and cemented that with a third-place finish. McNamee was nine seconds off Quinto's pace, finishing in 23:18.56. Ashley West of Susquehanna was fourth and Meg Brockett of Moravian was fifth.

Brianna Earnshaw had her second top-ten performance of the season, taking sixth for the Blue Jays in 23:44.67. Maria Anderson, last year's Rookie of the Year, was seventh in 23:47.17 for her second straight top-ten finish at the conference meet.

Colleen Kernan didn't factor into the scoring for EC, but as the top-placing first-year runner, she was named the Landamark's Rookie of the Year after placing ninth in 23:57.64.

Coach Brian Falk was once again named the conference Coach of the Year after his teams swept the Landmark meet for the second straight year.

The women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional meet on Saturday, November 14 at Big Spring High School.
