Dearie, Quinto top finishers for ECXC at Geneseo

LEICESTER, N.Y. — Lydia Dearie and Casey Quinto finished less than two seconds apart for the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team at the 37th Annual Geneseo Mike Woods XC Invitational on Saturday. It was the team's first crack at the 6,000-meter distance this season and all five of the point-scorers came through with new personal bests as the Blue Jays took sixth in the team standings with 174 points.

Dearie and Quinto's strong start to the season continued into Saturday's race. The duo have battled back and forth through the opening month taking the top spot in the Jays' lineup. It was the senior, Dearie, who crossed the line first at Geneseo, taking 22nd overall in a new 6k-best of 23:32.0. Quinto was just a touch off her pace, finishing right behind her in 23rd at 22:33.5, also a 6k PR.

Brenna McNamee, Elizabethtown's only conference Athlete of the Week award winner this season, was the third Blue Jay to complete the 6,000-meter course. She was 35th overall and dropped over a minute and a half off her previous best 6k time, from 24:22.6 at last year's Geneseo Invitational to 22:50.5 on Saturday.

Maria Anderson and Kelsey Brady were 49th and 54th, respectively. Both sophomores lowered their 6,000-meter times as Anderson finished in 23:04.9 and Brady was timed at 23:09.8.

E-town and Dickinson were tied for second in the latest Mideast Regional Rankings from the USTFCCCA. The Red Devils finished one spot higher in the team standings as the two schools battle for that two-spot behind perennial contender and defending national champion Johns Hopkins.

The women's cross country team will have the following weekend off in preparation for the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, October 17 at Rowan University.
