Dearie leads ECXC at Border Battle

SEWELL, N.J. — The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team had yet another meet where its top five finishers ran 6,000-meter personal bests. The Blue Jays were eighth at Saturday's Interregional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University with 194 points.

The women's Division III 6k race featured a field of 229 runners comprised of teams ranked both high in the regional and national rankings. Johns Hopkins is the defending national champion and ranked atop the Mideast rankings while the Atlantic Region's top team, SUNY Geneseo, was also there. E-town saw many of these teams two weeks back at Geneseo's meet.

Lydia Dearie and Casey Quinto were the one-two punch for the Jays once again. Dearie was a few seconds off cracking the top ten at the meet, taking 13th in 21:52.80. Quinto was just off her senior teammate's pace, crossing in 21:54.71 to place 15th.

Brenna McNamee has established herself as one of Elizabethtown's top performers, running to another top-three team finish as the third Blue Jay runner to complete the 6k-course. McNamee was 37th in 22:24.81.

Brianna Earnshaw stepped up for ECXC Saturday, running almost a minute faster than her previous race at Geneseo. Earnshaw clocked in at 22:45.38 to take 62nd. Kelsey Brady rounded out the Jays' scoring with a 67th-place finish in 22:50.56.

Samantha Gehly and Amy Gessler were the top runners for Elizabethtown in the 6k Open race. Gehly ran 24:34.88 and Gessler finished in 24:54.73 as both placed in the top 50.

The women's cross country team has one more race before the Landmark Conference Championships on Oct. 31. E-town will compete at the LVC Last Chance Run Fast Invitational on Friday, Oct. 23.
