Goettfert leads golf at Stevenson Invitational

UPPERCO, Md. – Freshman Felix Goettfert's 10-over 81 led Elizabethtown in Saturday's Stevenson Fall Invitational at Piney Branch Golf Club. The Blue Jays finished fourth in the team standings with a score of 333 (+49).

Goettfert used 11 pars in his round to tie for 10th on the leaderboard. He was consistent throughout the day, playing the front nine in 5-over par, before doing the same on the back.

All six competing Elizabethtown golfers were within 11 shots of each other. Kyle Hakun finished two strokes back of Goettfert with an 83 (+12) to tie for 15th.

Hakun's best run came on holes 6-10 where he was 1-under with four pars and a birdie on the par-3, 145-yard ninth.

Adam Amspacher shot 84 (+13) and Santiago Garcia 85 (+14) to cap the Blue Jays' scorers. Amspacher completed his round with seven pars, while Garcia registered six.

Chuck Johnston birdied the par-4 10th on his way to an 89 and Craig Eidle played the 6,493-yard course in 92.

Stevenson cruised to the win in the six-team tournament with a 20-over 304. Wesley (330), Albright (331) and Elizabethtown (333) were separated by just three shots, with Immaculata fifth (363). McDaniel only sent two of its players, though both finished in a tie for second with rounds of 77, and thus did not factor into the team scoring.

Elizabethtown concludes its fall season with a newly-added tournament Tuesday. The Jays will compete in the Chestnut Hill Griffin Invitational at Inniscrone Golf Club in Avondale beginning at 12:30 p.m.
