Phyllis Moser Schell captained the women's basketball team as a senior and was a standout defender. Moser Schell, a native of Thurmont, Md., played guard when the sport was still a half-court game, and thus, wasn't permitted to leave the backcourt or score.
Moser Schell was named Elizabethtown College's Outstanding Female Athlete of the 1959 senior class. She also played field hockey and was involved in the Women's Athletic Association (WAA), serving as chairwoman during her junior year. Moser Schell scored five goals as a senior member of the field hockey team, scoring a goal in E-town's 6-1 Homecoming win over Shippensburg.
