Few players in Elizabethtown College field hockey history have ever found the back of the cage like Frances Hoover Barrick. Hoover, a center forward on the 1955 and 1956 teams, certainly made her mark with 38 goals in 16 career games, an average of nearly 2.4 per game.

Hoover led E-town in scoring in each of her two seasons and her teams went a combined 17-2-2, including 10-1 in 1956. Hoover's 23 goals and 46 points in 1956 rank sixth and eighth on the program's single-season lists, respectively. At the conclusion of the 1956 season, Hoover was named captain of the Mid-East Second Team All-Stars and earned a spot on the Pennsylvania All-Star Second Team.

Before modern-day conference, regional and national postseason awards came into existence, postseason all-star teams were decided by playing actual all-star games. Elizabethtown had to enter a team in a regional tournament at Chambersburg in order for Hoover and teammates to be eligible for the Mid-East Teams. The tournament featured players from collegiate and independent club teams. Hoover was among the elite performers to move on to the National Womens' Field Hockey Tournament at Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in November, 1956.

Hoover, who also spent two seasons as a guard on the women's basketball team, captained the Jays' field hockey team in 1956. She finished her career with 10 multi-goal games and five hat tricks. In 1955, she went off for six goals against Moravian. Former coach Julia Risser described Hoover as, "a scoring machine."
