Elizabethtown men's lacrosse rapidly ascended into the upper echelon of the Landmark Conference under Head Coach Drew Delaney, who oversaw the most successful season in the program's 14-year history in 2015, his second leading the program.

The Blue Jays won a school record 14 games (14-3) and finished the regular season unbeaten in conference play (7-0) for the first time. Delaney was named Landmark Coach of the Year by his peers, while he and assistant coaches Rich Lefever, Nate Norbo and Brett Bird were honored as the conference's Coaching Staff of the Year.

E-town started the 2015 season with a statement, beating regional power Dickinson, 8-6. The Jays would put together a team record 13-game winning streak from March 7-April and earn the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Championship.

Delaney's inaugural team won seven games and featured four all-conference players, including Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year Joe Clark.

Clark led the Blue and Gray with 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists) to become the second conference rookie of the year in program history and first since Sean Thomson in 2002, Elizabethtown's first season.

Former Director of Athletics Nancy Latimore announced Delaney's hiring as the third head coach in program history Aug. 23, 2013.

"I am honored to be selected as the next head lacrosse coach at Elizabethtown College,” said Delaney upon his hiring. “I would like to thank Marianne Calenda, Nancy Latimore, and the entire search committee for allowing me this great opportunity. I am excited to build on the excellent tradition that the Blue Jays have established."

Delaney brought a decade of coaching experience with him to Elizabethtown. The first head coach in Arcadia University history, Delaney spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons in Glenside constructing the program from scratch. In their first varsity season, the Knights won five games and were competitive against their Freedom Conference foes. Delaney mentored three all-conference selections and league Rookie of the Year Chris Jacovino.

“One of Elizabethtown’s greatest attributes that stood out to me right away was an excellent academic tradition coupled with a well-rounded, successful athletic department,” noted Delaney. “The College’s commitment to excellence on and off the field is something I wanted to be a part of.”

“We are very fortunate to have an individual with Coach Delaney’s experience and skill set assuming leadership of our Blue Jay men’s lacrosse program,” said Latimore. “He will be an outstanding coach and mentor for our young men within the program.”

Delaney is a 2003 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, where he majored in special studies with a focus on history, government and sociology of the modern era. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Diplomats on defense and helped F&M reach the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals during his senior season.

Throughout his coaching career, Delaney has been able to learn from some of the best coaches in the industry. Delaney joined Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., as an assistant coach in the summer of 2004, working under the wing of Charlotte Hounds (Major League Lacrosse) head coach Mike Cerino. Delaney also had the chance to learn from Gene McCabe in 2007. The Generals had winning seasons in each of his years with the program, winning 25 games in that time frame.

In the summer of 2007, Delaney reunited with Cerino at Division II Limestone College. He handled defensive coordinator duties for three seasons as the Saints reached the DII Final Four in each season and produced seven All-Americans, including defensemen Matt Pinder (2008) and Spencer Wims (2009).

“I’ve been fortunate to play for, and coach with, some of the best leaders in the game,” explained Delaney. “Mike Cerino gave me my start and was instrumental in teaching me the nuances of the profession. He’s been a great mentor to me over the last 10 years. I also owe a lot to Gene McCabe and [Washington College head coach] Jeff Shirk, as well as my former coaches at Franklin & Marshall [Dave Webster and Bill Gorrow]. They’ve given me so much perspective in how successful programs should be run. It’s something I certainly hope to emulate with the Blue Jays.”

Delaney spent the 2011 season as an assistant coach/defensive coordinator for Shirk at Washington College, before accepting the head position at Arcadia that summer.

Delaney has served as an advance scout for the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse since 2012. Outside of coaching, he brings experience as a physical education instructor, assistant sports information director and equipment manager.

“I’m proud to be leading the Elizabethtown College program,” said Delaney. "We will play fast and allow our student-athletes the freedom to be aggressive and creative on the field. The College’s motto of Educate for Service will be something we embrace every day as an opportunity to learn and grow, and to prepare our players for competition.”

Delaney is originally from Maplewood, N.J. He and wife, Linda, an assistant coach with the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team, reside in Lancaster.
